Port Monitoring

Verify TCP reachability for critical infrastructure ports.

Port monitors open a TCP connection to a host and port. A successful connection keeps the monitor up. A failed or timed-out connection enters Confirming… and is re-probed; the monitor is marked down only after consecutive confirmed failures (3 by default), so a single dropped packet never pages you.

Fields

  • Host: hostname or IP
  • Port: integer 1–65535
  • Timeout: connect timeout in seconds
  • Interval: run frequency (minimum 60s and plan-aware)

Typical Ports

HTTPS 443, HTTP 80, SSH 22, MySQL 3306, PostgreSQL 5432, Redis 6379.

Examples

Edge HTTPS
Host: app.example.com
Port: 443
Timeout: 5
Interval: 60
Database Port
Host: db.internal.example.com
Port: 3306
Timeout: 5
Interval: 120
SSH Reachability
Host: bastion.example.com
Port: 22

Interval: 60

Events and Incidents

  • port_closed fires on transitions to down.
  • port_open fires when a previously down port recovers.
  • Generic status events (check_down, check_up) are also emitted on status transitions.
